About Us

Crested Butte Mountain Theatre is the longest, continuously-running community theatre in Colorado. 1972 brought live theatre to Crested Butte. Our first show, ''Dark of the Moon,'' was presented outside against the backdrop of a full moon rising above Crested Butte Mountain and a wild cast of local singers, dancers, musicians, and actors. Since 1972 CBMT has produced over 250 plays and musicals with all volunteers on stage, backstage, and in technical positions. Annually we bring local youths to the stage with 'Teens on Stage,' and showcase local writers with our Ten Minute Play festival.
In 2002, in recognition of theatre stalwart, Tom Mallardi, and his long-time contributions to the CBMT, the Town officially renamed the Old Town Hall space the 'Mallardi Cabaret Theatre' after Tom's untimely passing that same year.
In Spring 2018, the Mallardi Cabaret underwent a renovation, including new red oak flooring, carpeting, paint, refurbished green room and bar area. Throughout 2018 we are anticipating a CB Creative District piece of public art for the permanent inclusion in the Town’s public art collection and installation of the third elevator in town.
