Mountain Manners for Mountain Bikes
Do you love riding the trails but don’t know if you’re “doing it right” from an ethical standpoint of traveling in the backcountry? Mountain Manners offers a special succinct course for mountain bikers during Crested Butte Bike Week on Sunday, June 25 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. to answer all your questions. You’ll be able to squeeze in another ride later in the day! Taught by Molly Murfee and based on the Leave No TraceTM tenets, this class gives you the low-down on low-environmental impact travel biking through wild, fragile places. Come get smart about bringing the right gear; trail etiquette; choosing the best lunch and camp sites; preserving flora and fauna; “toilet” practices; dealing with trash; preserving water quality and more. Reference materials and fun SWAG provided! The entire course takes place outdoors! Class fee is $40. Bring your own bike ready to ride. Register through Mountain Manner’s sponsor, the Crested Butte Wildflower Festival, online at www.crestedbuttewildflowerfestival.com. Go to the “Events” tab, then “Mountain Manners Stewardship Classes” on the drop-down menu. You may also register by phone at (970) 349-2571. Meet at the 4-way stop / Visitor Center in Crested Butte on the NE Corner of Elk Avenue and Sixth Street (Hwy 135).
