Hank Barlow Speaks at the CB Museum
Former resident, Hank Barlow, will be speaking at the Crested Butte Mountain Heritage Museum on Monday, Sept 26th at 7:30. Hank arrived in Crested Butte in 1971 when he came over from Aspen where he'd been a ski instructor. He opened a ski shop in Crested Butte with Robert Pimintel. He published 'Aspen to Whitefish, A Skier's Guide to the Rockies' in 1980 followed by a small book about Crested Butte called 'Crested Butte, A Mecca of Adventure'. He was also a journalist for various ski and cycling magazines, and an associate editor for Skiing Magazine. In 1984, he started Mountain Bike Magazine with the first issue appearing in 1985. A number of years later, Hank sold the magazine to Rodale Press, owner of Bicycling Magazine, and continued working for them. Hank moved to France in '94. While there, he was convinced by people who had been reading his writings for years to do a book and he published it himself. You can go to velodogs-publishing.com to look at the book. Hank’s slide show will mainly feature unknown biking trails in the French and Italian Alps. Hank is in the country because he is being inducted into the Mountain Bike Hall of Fame at the end of the month in Marin County. Come and enjoy stories of Hank’s biking career here in Crested Butte and around the world. A $5 donation is suggested for this event. For questions or more information please call the Museum at 349-1880.
