10th Annual Backcountry Film Festival Premiers in Gunnison at the Ruby Cinema
Crested Butte, Colorado? High Country Conservation Advocates (HCCA), the environmental advocacy organization of the Gunnison Valley, is happy to bring The Winter Wildlands Alliance Backcountry Film Festival to the valley for the third year in a row. In its 10th year, the unique film festival brings inspiration through images of winter adventure to over 100 locations around the world, inspired by the mantra to ?seek the snow less traveled.? This year, HCCA is proud to partner with the Crested Butte Nordic Center and the Crested Butte Avalanche Center to make the Gunnison Valley film event a celebration of all things winter and human-powered. Also for the first time this year, HCCA will bring the festival to both Crested Butte and Gunnison, for two unique showings. Both events will feature a raffle full of great winter gear and local swag! The Gunnison screening will take place at the Ruby Cinema on the Western State Colorado University campus on Wednesday, January 21st (Doors ? 7:30 pm, films ? 8:00 pm). Tickets are $10 and will be available at the door. A special student price for the Gunnison screening will be offered at $5 with valid student ID. Funds raised from the Gunnison Valley screenings will stay in the community to promote and protect wild lands for human-powered recreation, raise awareness of winter management issues, and promote avalanche training and safety programs. The festival was created in 2004 to highlight Winter Wildlands Alliance?s efforts to preserve and promote winter landscapes for human-powered users. From a single showing in Boise that first year, the festival has grown to include showings in locations throughout the United States and Canada and now in Antarctica, Europe, Australia and Asia. Funds raised from the Gunnison Valley screenings will stay in the community to promote and protect wild lands for human-powered recreation, raise awareness of winter management issues, and promote avalanche training and safety programs.
