About Us

The Upper Gunnison River Water Conservancy District was established in 1959 by a vote of area taxpayers to conserve, protect, and defend the waters within the Upper Gunnison River Basin. Our mission is “to serve as an active leader in all issues affecting the water resources of the Upper Gunnison River basin.” This includes engaging at all levels of government in the development of water policy protective of our water user interests and those of the State of Colorado as a whole. The District manages a variety of programs including grants, wet meadow restoration, education and outreach.
