  • About

1% for Open Space is a voluntary 1% donation on top of products and services when you visit the over 100 participating local businesses. Crested Butte Mountain Resort, festivals, real estate offices, retail stores, doctors, restaurants, beauty services and lodging establishments have all agreed to put their time and effort into collecting these voluntary funds for the program.

Once collected, 1% for Open Space, Inc. grants this money to requesting organizations for the preservation of land in Gunnison County. We have had the priviledge of funding projects by the Trust for Public Land, Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory, Gunnison Ranchland Conservation Legacy, Town of Crested Butte and Crested Butte Land Trust.

To date, the 1% for Open Space program has raised over $1.9 million to help preserve over 5,100 acres throughout Gunnison County, from high mountain meadows to rolling ranchlands. Our funding has assisted trails and open space in areas such as the Lower Loop, Woods Walk, Rec Path, Slate River, Washington Gulch, Kebler Pass, Paradise Divide, Paradise Basin, Yule Lakes, Gunsight Bridge, Gothic and Schofield Park. Additionally we have helped historic ranching families such as Rozman, Guerreri, Niccoli, Peterson, Field, Taramaracaz and Robbins to continue their traditional way of life in the Gunnison Valley.

Pennies at a time, we've raised a million to protect the very reason you came here in the first place.
