High Country Hikes - Rocky Point
Join in on a local, full day hike to Rocky Point at 11770’. This is the ridge divide between Spring Creek and the Taylor Canyon. The group’s primary objectives are to experience great views, a sense of accomplishment, a shared adventure and a greater understanding of the local topography and surrounding wilderness areas. The hike includes an elevation gain of approximately 1600’ and connects with the Gunnison Spur of the Colorado Trail, includes off trail travel and is considered strenuous. Round trip approximately 8 miles. Participants are required to bring day pack containing 1-2 liters of water, appropriate footwear for hiking, wind and rain jackets, warm hat, layers of clothing, lunch, additional snacks, camera, and sun protection (sunscreen, sunglasses, sun hat) as well as a walking stick or trekking poles (optional). Closed toe hiking shoes only (no sandals allowed). Cost includes transportation to and from Western campus to hike location.
